Chapters nine and ten
Chapter nine the men are still away, they are hungary and get food they returned to a dugout to eat and a furnace door swung open and exploded. Henry can barley breathe, a trench motar had exploded. Two of the men were killed, the remaining men brought Henry to a near hospital to get his injured leg treated. Henry's roomate came to visit Henry, and the priest from his village. Henry talks to the priest and tells him how badley he wants the war to be over, the priest tells him to keep his hope.
7 and 8
Henry comes back from a post and sees a group of soldiers, and a few stragglers, even further behind was a man struggling to keep up. Henry talked to him and wanted to help, the soldier explained how he had a hernia, and had a truss to support it but he threw it away so he would not have to go on in the army. Henry tells the man to fall and hit his head and then he'd come back and bring him to get help somewhere. I admire that Henry has a good heart even during this horrible war. Later Henry returned to the village, he drank with some buddies and then wanted to see Catherine. When he went to visit her another nurse told Henry that she was sick and won't come see him. The next day, Henry has to go away again to an attack, he stops again at the hospital to see Catherine before he leaves she gave him a "St. Anthony medal".. (i think its like a necklace).. she said it would protect him while he was gone. I don't exactly understand the relationship between Catherine and Henry, I feel as if they barley know eachother, but she told him she loved him, then sometimes she won't see him or kiss him. I think she's a tease or maybe playing hard to get.

Chapters 1-3
A Farwell to Arms opens with the narrator, an American Lieutenant, describing the setting of an Italian village that he is stationed in with lots of imagery. It sets a dark mood, describing the cold autumn, everything dying and the dust all over from the war. The battles in the mountains are described. And the epidemic cholera is spreading and killing many people. When snow started falling the war was held off. He returned home to his roomate and told him about where he went. His roomate tells how he fell in love with an english girl and that there are lots of new girls around the front. Also during the first three chapters they pick on the priest about girls a lot and the war, teasing him.
